History of the most authentic club of IBIZA - AMNESIA - History of the most authentic club of IBIZA - AMNESIA - fifties & sixties Halfway 1900, a whole new community of artists, hippies and other free spirits came to Ibiza island to enjoy its stunning beauty, beaches and relaxed atmosphere. They lived an unconventional lifestyle and some of them experimented with drugs. Music was always there and people danced on the beaches all nights while smoking their joints and many art performances and events were organized. Back then Ibiza was also visited by world famous bands like the Rolling Stones (1964) and also the film music of Pink Floyd was recorded on IBIZA island. IBIZA became internationally known as a safe haven and over the years more and more people visited the beautiful, small Mediterranean island with its unprecedented atmosphere. seventies A young man from Madrid, Antonio Escohotado, who studied philosophy, also decided to come to Ibiza in 1974 to start a new life and not long after he became the new guru for those experimenting with drugs. In May 1976 he persuaded his landlord to rent him his ancient finca to open a nightclub where people could forget about their all day troubles in an unknown world, away from their daily routine. He searched for a good name for his venue. The Greek word AMNESIA turned out to cover his ideas of partying with no worries about tomorrow. His club became a place where nature-lovers and idealists met,  to dance & party and to enjoy life and all beauty of nature. In 1978 Bob Marley performed unforgettably and during that Summer NEW WAVE marched up, the film Saturday night fever was launched and......... DISCO was born. AMNESIA was then taken over by a business man from Madrid, Ginés Sánchez, and a decade of varying success followed and also the opening of other discotheques such as KU (PRIVILEGE), PACHA made competition hard.   eighties In the eighties a former employee of KU, Prontxio Izaguirre, successfully started to organize parties in AMNESIA and brought great fame to the club, that now was established in the top of Europe’s club scene. Music styles changed rapidly in those days and to keep pace with all innovation, AMNESIA introduced a very sophisticated sound system that preluded a whole new dance era. Free-style house mixes were presented in the open air on rooftops, and the specific, original Balearic sound was born, and in those days, often presented by well-known DJ Alfredo Fiorito. nineties In the nineties AMNESIA rapidly became the temple of sound and the open air clubs of IBIZA became famous all over the world. Complaints enforced stricter regulations and clubs were forced to cover their dance floors, but nevertheless AMNESIA expanded, from 4  to 16 bars, and from 30, to over 100 employees and presented magazines, records & merchandising.
